ANTHROPOLOGİCAL EXAMİNATİONS LABORATORY
Forensic anthropology is described as use of physical anthropology and forensic osteology methods to solve forensic cases.
Basic subject in anthropological examinations is the identification. The examiner looks for the answer of how external factors affect the skeletal system and he/she carries out his analyses on the individual basis. Also in anthroplogical examinations field, it is examined if the findings belong to an human when encountered with a skeleton or bone remnants. If the findings belong to an human, the factors such as race, gender, height and weight are examined.
Besides, subjects such as cause of death, facial reconstruction, craniofacial superimposition, facial case depth analysis and forensic aging are also within the scope of anthropological examinations.
1- SKELETON EXAMINATIONS
On skeleton or bone remnants examinations, generally the
analyses are carried out about if the findings belong to an human, if it is,
the race, gender, height characters are axamined; if there is any physical
trauma on them; finding, extraction, preperation and delivering of the skeleton
or bone remnants to the laboratory or giving advices about them, and also in
forensic cases identification examinations are carried out. Besides, if
there is, pre and post mortem trauma indications are detected.
Besides, if there is, ante, peri or post mortem trauma indications
2- FACIAL RECONSTRUCTION and CRANIOFACIAL SUPERIMPOSITION
Facial reconstruction consists of the analysis on providing
representation of the face and making the face recognisable for identification
if it is not identified with regular methods (DNA, radiographic and dental
comparison)on forensic cases. For facial reconstruction of the cranium which is
delivered to the laboratory, two dimensional facial reconstruction, three
dimensional facial reconstruction and three dimensional computer facial
reconstruction technics are applied.
computerised facial reconstruction techniques are applied
3- FORENSIC AGING
aging is a phase based process in which morphological structure of the face and
face development principles are taken as the reference. Also known as “face
updating” in public opinion, forensic aging consists of the analyses in which
every part of the face is evaluated in its own anatomic structure and these
findings are included with morphological characteristics.
Turkish National Police is in hot pursuit of science and
technology and new approaches and methodologies are researched on finding
missing persons, arresting fugitives, and enlightening murder cases. Forensic
aging and facial reconstruction take an important place on solving these cases.
FORENSIC AGE PROGRESSION
age progression is a phase based process in which
morphological structure of the face and face development principles are taken
as the reference. Also known as “face updating” in public opinion, forensic
aging consists of the analyses in which every part of the face is evaluated in
its own anatomic structure and these findings are included with morphological
